As an Assistant Planner, you will receive support towards gaining APC competencies to achieve RTPI chartership and you will be able to attend training days to further develop your knowledge, skills and behaviours.
Our aim is to nurture creative and dynamic property consultants. Working as an Assistant Planning Consultant, you will work within our Planning & Development team, getting real experience from day one on a range of exciting projects.

Main Responsibilities
As an Assistant Planning Consultant, you will work closely with members of the Manchester Planning team and other members of the P&D team providing them with assistance. The role will predominantly focus on assisting one of our key clients with its existing estate, including monitoring planning applications, evolving policy documents and other ad hoc planning matters.
In addition, the role will need to support the other members of the team on a wide variety of tasks including:
• planning history searches;
• reviewing planning policies;
• preparing planning applications;
• undertaking planning appraisals;
• assisting with planning appeals; and
• preparing representations to evolving planning policy documents.
You will work with other members of the team, developing individual expertise in delivering impartial professional advice and developing innovative and intelligent solutions for our clients.
You will build effective, commercial relationships both inside and outside of the firm, based upon developing technical expertise and outstanding communication (both written and face-to-face).
About you
• Experience gained either through completing suitable work experience, a placement year or in a current role
• A proven strong academic record in a relevant degree (RTPI accredited).
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and IT skills, an eye for detail and commercial acumen, and a desire to have a career in town planning.
• A good personal manner, calm and authoritative, particularly when dealing with clients and colleagues
• Working towards chartered membership of RTPI

Working hours
The normal hours of work for this position are 0900hrs to 1730hrs, Monday to Friday. This position also involves out of hours working on an ‘as necessary’ basis. The Firm’s core hours are from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and you may choose to start and end your day around these hours, provided you still work for 7.25 hours per day (e.g. 8.00 am – 4.30pm, 10.00 am – 6.30 pm). There is no requirement for this to be the same each day, but you are required to keep your manager informed. We are open to considering flexible working arrangements for everyone; this can be discussed during the application process or upon commencement.
