About the Team
The Building Consultancy Group provides Building Surveying, Lease Exit, Project Management and Project Monitoring Services to commercial property occupiers, developers and investors throughout the UK from our offices in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow. We enjoy strong and productive relationships with a first-rate client base and with many other parts of the business, including our Agency, Investment, Valuation and Asset Management teams and continue to grow alongside the wider business.
We have secured a strong orderbook of long-term work, but we want to develop this further. Our work at the present time is split across a variety of sectors including industrial, logistics, offices, healthcare and religious. We provide the full suite of building consultancy services. The Birmingham Building Consultancy team are now seeking to recruit a Senior Surveyor or an Associate to support the continued growth of the team.
Main responsibilities
Responsibilities will include:
• Leading and assisting on surveys alongside members of the team and department
• Manage multiple instructions and assignments in a proactive and diligent manner
• Assists in the supporting of junior members in the team, including those undertaking APC
• Supporting senior members in the team and department
About you
• MRICS with relevant building surveying experience
• Strong interpersonal ability coupled with rapport building, effective listening, questioning and summarising skills
• Experience and confidence in meeting client demand and demonstrating excellent client care
• Possess good written and verbal communication, time and organisational management
• Supporting senior members in the team and department
• Solid technical surveying skills (experience in the commercial, industrial and logistics sectors is desirable)
• Knowledge and use of CAD systems is desirable
• Have a good knowledge and implementation of the full suite of Building Surveying services, including: Dilapidations, Acquisition Surveys, Contract Administration, Party Wall, specification writing, condition schedules, reinstatement cost assessments, building pathology and defect advice
• Knowledge of JCT Building Contracts, and experience in contract administration of projects from inception to completion
• Commercial awareness and acumen
• Planning and prioritising skills
• A high degree of flexibility, in order to move from one task to another without a loss in productivity; as well as the ability to adapt to unexpected changes initiated by either the client or the department
• Strong drive for results in order to maintain momentum and complete the task
• The ability to use knowledge and information to spot and develop opportunities on the client’s behalf
• Full UK driving licence

Hybrid working and core hours
Our hybrid working policy outlines staff to be in the office for 3 days per week, with 2 days working from home. In our London offices, our desk booking app allows you to plan ahead, and book your desk up to 3 weeks ahead. We also offer great flexibility around our core hours, which are from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. You can choose to start and end your day around these hours, provided you still do your 7.25 hours per day (e.g. 8.00 am – 4.30pm, 10.00 am – 6.30 pm). There is no requirement for this to be the same each day, but you are required to keep your manager informed. This position also involves out of hours working on an ‘as necessary’ basis. We
